Switch The Ignition Lock On The 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

The ignition lock cylinder locks the steering circle and the gear shifter when the engine is off.


3. Separate the ignition wiring harness from the ignition lock cylinder. This is a small plug at the end of the cylinder.4.


Instructions


1. Remove the plastic shroud or collar from sorrounding the steering column. Use a small screwdriver or star bit to remove the screws from underneath the steering column.


2. Disconnect the negative battery cable clamp from the negative battery post, using a 3/8 drive ratchet and socket. Secure the cable so that it cannot inadvertently come into contact with anything.


Changing the ignition lock cylinder in a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer is a dense still rewarding project. Ignition locks can potency defective over allotment due to senescence of wear on the tumblers inside the lock. Remove the ignition lock cylinder with a 3/8-inch-drive ratchet and socket.


5. Visually inspect the end of the new cylinder against the old cylinder to make sure your electrical connection is identical.


6. Install the new ignition lock cylinder and tighten the mounting bolts.


7. Reattach the wiring harness to the new lock cylinder.


8. Turn the key to ensure that the ignition lock cylinder is not bound up and is installed correctly. The new lock cylinder will come with a new ignition key.


9. Reinstall the steering column collar. Reattach the negative battery cable.
