Repair The Tailgate Lock On The 1998 Ford Explorer

Repairing the tailgate lock on your 1988 Ford Explorer requires the Emigration of the tailgate insert plate in circuit to access the lock. Once removed, you can pry outside the locking mechanism and transform the broken Element to keep at using your tailgate lock. Instructions


1. Field your Explorer and turn off the engine.


2. Ajar the tailgate. Remove the covering panel on the centre of the tailgate by detaching its four screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Pry out the mechanism with a flat-head screwdriver.4. Remove the lock component by pulling it off the mechanism.


Pull off the covering panel.3. Remove the four screws securing the tailgate lock mechanism, using a Phillips screwdriver.


Install a new lock component. Reattach the mechanism to the tailgate and secure it by reinstalling the four screws. Reattach the covering panel and reinstall the four screws. Close the Explorer's tailgate.
