2001 Saturn Sc2 Push Installation Instructions

The water pump on the 2001 Saturn SC-2 is the relevant Slogan that sends coolant ended the engine to arrange the van is running at its Correct temperature. A couple of problems can chance with the water pump that would entail its replacement: 1) the ball bearings wear absent and originate a clamorous, high-pitched sound when the engine is turned on, or 2) coolant starts leaking from where the damp pump attaches to the engine. Either bag, it's date to interchange the drool pump to lock on your engine runs properly.

Instructions

1. Free the hood. Unscrew and remove the cap on the unprincipled coolant overflow cistern on the passenger side of the engine. Crawl under the front of the automobile so you can gaze the draincock (a clear plastic plug) on the passenger side of the radiator. Bestow the draincock a quarter turn, counterclockwise, and Proceeds the coolant into a Disinfected container. Whether the coolant is Disinfected, it can be reused after the soak pump is replaced. Provided it's muddy, cut the coolant to an Car parts store for Correct disposal.

Lower the motorcar onto the jack stand. Stop loosening the lug nuts, then remove the nuts and the tire.3. Pry up the plastic rivets that influence the splash guards to the circle flourishing with either a screwdriver or humble wire cutters. Whether you're using wire cutters, be careful that you don't accidentally chop off the rivet heads.2. Berth tire chocks latest the rear tires and establish the emergency brake. Booty off the rotate contain from the passenger side front tire and loosen the lug nuts. Jack up the Saturn and deposit a jack stand under the frame of the machine.

4. Loosen, on the contrary effect not remove, the bolts on the flood pump pulley with a shallow 10 mm socket. The imbue pump is in the upper deserved atom of the turn able-bodied with the pulley held in levy with three 10 mm bolts. Provided you compulsion to spin the pulley to access the other bolts, turn the crankshaft (the substantial pulley with the three spokes) clockwise with a 21 mm socket.

5. Loosen the ebony serpentine band that runs encompassing and on ice the dilute pump and crankshaft pulleys. Capitalization a 14 mm open-end wrench to turn the cummerbund tensioner (the nigrous pulley with a silver bolt in the centre) clockwise to Proceeds tension on the serpentine region to remove it.

6. Remove the three 10 mm bolts on the saturate pump pulley. Set the pulley aside and unscrew the 10 mm bolts that attach the water pump to the engine block. Keep track of the original locations for each bolt in the water pump since the bolts vary in length. The bolts will need to be replaced in their proper location when attaching the new water pump.

7. Pull off the water pump from the engine block. If the pump is stuck, use a gasket scraper to gently pry it loose. When scraping, be careful not to accidentally damage the aluminum engine block. When the pump is removed, expect some coolant to spill out. Wipe down the area with a shop rag.

8. Inspect the engine surface where the pump was attached. If there is old gasket material, use the gasket scraper to remove the residue. After the surface has been thoroughly cleaned, apply a thin layer of blue RTV onto the engine block, including around the outer edges of the bolt holes. Position the new water pump gasket in place. Apply a thin layer of blue RTV onto the surface of the new water pump and attach it to the gasket. Screw in the 10 mm bolts and tighten in a crisscross pattern. Do not overtighten the bolts or you'll risk damaging the threads in the aluminum engine block.

9. Attach the water pump pulley to the water pump and screw in the 10 mm bolts. Wrap a strap wrench around the pulley to prevent it from spinning and continue to tighten the bolts. After the water pump and the pulley have been installed, wait for the blue RTV to set for about an hour.

10. Turn the belt tensioner clockwise with a 14 mm wrench and reattach the serpentine belt. If you don't remember the pattern for the belt installation, there's a diagram for the belt on the top of the engine near the passenger side of the radiator.

11. Turn the draincock on the radiator a quarter turn clockwise to close it. If your coolant was clean, pour it back into the coolant overflow tank. If you're using new coolant, use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and diluted water and pour it into the coolant overflow tank. Turn on the engine and let it run for five minutes. Check the ground for any leaks.

12. Reinstall the splash guards, inserting the plastic rivets and pushing down on the center rivet head to lock each rivet into place. Put the tire on the lugs, screw on the lug nuts and tighten as much as possible. Jack up the car, remove the jack stand, gently lower the car to the ground and finish tightening the lug nuts. Reattach the wheel cover.
