Bleached furniture is an big-league department of a shabby chic kitchen.
A shabby chic kitchen's hallmarks are subdued or sun-faded colors, distressed cabinets and furniture, vintage-looking fabrics and antique accessories, much like a lived-in cottage feel. You can complete this look for very little by shopping at secondhand stores, using things you have around the house and some DIY painting and sanding.
Instructions
1. Paint a sun-faded color on your kitchen walls, such as peach or green.
2.4. Sand down the surfaces to thin the white paint and remove it entirely in some areas that would be naturally worn, such as the corners. With a damp rag, wipe all of the sanding dust off.
Paint on a coat of primer if necessary on cabinets, doors, chairs and table. After that is dry, apply a thin coat of a pastel color. Let dry. Follow with a coat of white or cream paint.
Take the doors and any hardware off of your cabinets and the legs off of your table. Strip the paint and sand all of the surfaces of the cabinets, doors, table and chairs.3. Apply a coat of paste wax with a clean rag and let it soak in overnight.
5. Reattach the table legs and cabinet doors and hardware.
6. Hang vintage fabric curtains with antique-looking curtain rods, tie-backs or hooks. Set down fabric place mats on the table in color-coordinated but not necessarily matching patterns. Center a vase with fresh flowers on your table along with antique candlesticks.
