4. Remove the current starter's mounting bolts and (on a V-6) move the starter forward and remove the bellhousing cover.


5. Lower the starter; detach the transmission cooler lines from the oil pan and move them away if needed. Disconnect the solenoid's wires with a wrench and remove the starter.


6. Raise the new starter into position and fasten it with its bolts. Connect the wires to the solenoid terminals.


7. Reconnect the transmission cooler lines if needed -- don't bend or kink the lines -- and reinstall the transmission bellhousing cover and the solenoid shield.


8. If the truck has a splash shield, unbolt and remove it with your wrench.3. Unbolt the single bolt on the transmission's bellhousing cover and remove the starter solenoid's shield; this is needed on a V-8 engine.
