Satellite radio broadcaster XM is known for its in-vehicle commercial-free radio entertainment products. XM provides over 180 channels, of which 71 are commercial-free music and 40 are sports talk and play-by-play. Equipment is also available for boating and home use, and you can listen to and control your XM radio stream via a web-based interface on a laptop as well. Using XM radio on a laptop involves identifying your existing radio hardware and entering the details into the laptop's web browser.
Instructions
1. Tune your dedicated in-car, or in-home XM radio to "Channel 0" and your unique eight-character radio identifier will be displayed. "Channel 0" is one down from the "XM Preview" station. Write the number down. If you still have the packaging, the radio identifier is printed on the box.
2. Create an XM Radio Online account on the web-based form. Enter the User Name and Password that you created, and click on "Login & Listen Now." An interface will launch that resembles the interface that you use on your dedicated XM radio device. Use the mouse to choose channels and the streamed content to which you subscribe and listen to on the dedicated player will transmit through the laptop speakers.
3. Navigate to the home page of SiriusXM, which was created through a merger between XM and another satellite provider, and click on "Listen Online." The SiriusXM Player will launch.
4. Enter the eight-character identifier in the text box labeled "Radio ID" and complete the rest of the form. Click the check mark where it asks you to agree that you are the XM Radio account holder. Click on the "Next" button and follow the prompts to create the online account.
