The system of installing a door is one of the easiest and most usual at rest improvement projects. It doesn't capture a trained finished to supersede the intuitive steps involved in replacing a door. The most complicated system in the measure is the installation of door hinges.
Instructions
1.7. Screw the hinge in place. Avoid over-screwing the hinge. When done properly, the hinge should be held firmly in place while still being level with the door or frame.
While you have some flexibility in where the hinges are installed, most hinges are installed 10 inches from the doorframe's bottom and 5 inches from the top.
3. Measure the same distance on the door itself and make corresponding marks. If you're replacing hinges already in place, you'll need to remove the existing door from the frame first. This can be done easily, though you may need a hammer or mallet to free any hinge pins used to secure the door to its old hinges.
4. Trace the outline of the hinge onto the doorframe using a pencil. Make clear delineations of the width and height of the hinge.
5. Make marks for places in which you plan to place screws. Door hinge packages often include their own screws, making the planning and installation process easier.
6. Create a depression in which to insert a recessed hinge on the doorframe. Use a hammer and chisel to score the area within the outline of the hinge. Clear away wood splinters until there's enough space for the hinge to rest within the depression.
Decide where you'd like to install the hinges. You can install hinges to make a door open to the left or the right.2. Mark the spots at which you want to install the hinges on the doorframe.
8. Repeat steps 5 through 8 to attach the recessed hinge to your door. Some hinge kits do not require both halves of the hinge to be recessed. Check with the instruction manual for any specific directions.
9. Connect the two halves of the hinges by reinserting the hinge pin. This will secure the door to the doorframe. Start by attaching the top hinge and conclude with the bottom hinge.
