The 2005 Toyota Matrix uses two heated O2 sensors -- one before the catalytic converter and one after it.1. Jack up the vehicle, using the floor jack, and support it with the jack stands.2. The machine compares the two signals and makes adjustments to engine controls. Provided the computer cannot correct the mixture in the exhaust, it turns the engine light on.
Instructions
Both sensors in conjunction test for O2 in the exhaust process. The exhaust passes by the beginning O2 sensor, sending a voltage expression to the pc, then complete the catalytic converter, then the moment O2 sensor. The word from the moment O2 sensor should indicate a lower proportions of O2 in the exhaust.
Unplug the malfunctioning oxygen sensor's wiring harness connector by pulling the tangs on the side of the plug apart and pulling the plug off the sensor.
3. Turn the sensor counterclockwise, using the oxygen sensor socket.
4. Coat the threads of the new oxygen sensor with anti-seize compound. Install the oxygen sensor, using the oxygen sensor socket. Plug in the wiring harness connector.
