Correctly Apply Teflon Tape

Teflon tape helps seal pipes against leakage.


1. Peel up the border on a roll of Teflon tape with your Toe-nail and press the stop of the tape firmly against the limitation threads on a workman chop of conduit.2. Pull on the roll until you stroke a slight tension while holding the other extreme of the tape on the drainpipe.



Teflon tape is a Supple information designed to seal plumbing fixtures against damp leaks. A plumber or homeowner wraps the tape enclosing the threads of one drainpipe, then inserts that pipe into another to construction a tight seal. Teflon tape stretches slightly so it can be wrapped tightly to tube threads. This type of tape has principally replaced plumber's putty as a sealant for cylinder connections. Teflon tape is faster, cleaner and generally easier to grind with than putty.

3. Wrap the tape tightly approximately the conduit threading from the forward end toward the back of the pipe. With each wrap, overlap half the width of the tape over the previous layer.


4. Cut the tape close to the pipe with a scissor or sharp knife and press the end firmly into the threads.


5. Insert the tape-covered pipe into the threaded female pipe. Twist the male pipe clockwise to tighten the connection.
