Use A Tailgate Latch On The Ranger Xlt

A conventional issue in the Ranger XLT is a broken tailgate hasp. The plant hook handgrip is constructed of plastic. On the newer round target Ranger XLT, that becomes brittle over future and the levers that actuate the bar snap off. The older square oppose Rangers had a metal bolt that would fail when the axis points wore elsewhere. Replacement of the bolt is fresh within the sample at ease mechanic's power, and the recent fastening is available from most barn door Car parts stores.


Instructions


1. Remove the workshop Bedstead liner include screws on the tail gate using a torx Chauffeur and put the plastic encompass aside. Remove the eight access panel screws on the inside panel of the Ranger's tail gate using a screwdriver and levy the access panel aside.


2. Unsnap the plastic connectors that attach the bar rods to the hook by using a screwdriver to pry the locking parcel of the connector airy. Simply slip the rods gone of the open latch connectors to disconnect the latch rods from the latch.


3. Unbolt the old latch and handle from the tailgate using a 13 mm socket, extension and ratchet. Lift the latch mechanism out of the tail gate through the access panel opening. Carefully rotate the latch handle out of the tailgate from the outside of the tailgate.


4. Install the new handle into the tailgate. Reinstall the inner panel and tighten the screws securely. Reinstall the bed liner panel over the tailgate panel and tighten the screws securely. Open and close the tailgate several times to verify the latch functions properly.


Slip the latch into place on the handle levers and bolt the handle and latch to the tailgate using the factory 13 mm nuts. Snap the latch rods into the connectors and close the locking tabs on the connectors to secure the rods to the latch. Operate the handle a few times to ensure the latch functions properly.5.
