78 Chevrolet Starter Installation Instructions

Installing a starter into a 1978 Chevy takes approximately an day.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the denying battery cable from the battery using a socket wrench. Stand the front of the vehicle to a comfortable heighth using a motorcar hoist or jack stands.

The larger ring slides onto the larger starter solenoid connector, and the smaller ring slides onto the smaller connector. The two nuts have different size threads too, so only remove one nut at a time. Tighten the larger nut to 25-35 ft-lb.


4. Remove the smaller nut from the starter solenoid connector and slide it onto the smaller wire. Tighten the nut to 25-35 ft-lb.


5. Lower the Chevy to the ground and reconnect the negative battery cable using a socket wrench.


6. Start the Chevy up to make sure the new starter works properly.
