3. Use tape to block off the section that you are working on. Painter's tape is the best to use, because it is easy to remove, won't leave any residue and won't strip any paint.
4. Apply a thin coat of primer to the affected area. Once the primer dries, apply another thin coat. Repeat a third time, and allow to dry completely.
5. Paint a thin coat of paint over the primer. Let it dry. After it dries, check to see the coverage and how well it blends with the rest of the paint. If you need to add another coat, then do so, but continue to check the blending. You don't want the rust spots you fixed to be a darker color than the rest of your car.
