5. Remove the water pump using the appropriate sockets. Clean the gasket-mating surfaces of the water pump and engine using a plastic scraper and shop rags. If the water pump uses an O-ring, fit the O-ring into its groove, then install the water pump. If the water pump uses a gasket, coat the water pump gasket-mating surface with a thin layer of RTV silicone. Position the gasket onto the water pump and silicone. If your water pump is behind the timing cover, remove the upper timing cover. Rotate the engine until the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft pulley(s) line up. Remove the crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer. Follow the instructions for the timing belt for your particular vehicle to remove the timing belt.


Fill the radiator with new coolant. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
