Take Away The Starter On The 1987 Toyota Truck

The 1987 Toyota pickup has a starter Engine on the Chauffeur's side of the engine. The starter on these trucks is a compact unit and mounts to the phone housing of the transmission. Instructions


1. Disconnect the con battery cable from the battery terminal using a wrench to loosen the retaining bolt. Lift the cable stop off the terminal and isolate it from the battery.


Depress the locking tab on the second connector and pull it out of the connector on the starter. Do not pull on the wires when you remove the plug or you may damage them. Lay the wires and connector aside.5.


Allot the two wiring harness connections on the rear of the starter. Remove the retaining peanut from the "B" terminal with a wrench; this is the terminal with the barn door cherry wire on the stud type connector. Slide the wire off the stud and lay it aside.

Locate the two mounting bolts on the front of the starter where it meets the bell housing. The bolts run through the bell housing and thread into the starter from the transmission side. Remove both the upper and lower mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet while supporting the starter motor.


6. Lower the starter motor out of the engine compartment then remove it from under there truck.
