Switch The Intake Manifold On The Chevrolet Astro

The intake manifold in your Chevy Astro vehivle distributes the fuel/air concoction to the cylinder heads. Replacing one is normally a assignment prime left to professionals, as is the dispute with most modern-day engine components. One of the most essential matters to commemorate is how all the parts connect to the manifold.

Instructions

Removing the Old Manifold

1. Disconnect the motorcar's antagonistic battery cable. Remove the engine subsume. Push the front seats back, remove the engine panel's lower interval, disengage any aid rods and floor ducting, loosen the retaining screws and unlock the backside latches. Disconnect the VC valve and hose from the manifold.

2. Void the cooling action. Abode a container under the empty plug at the radiator, and remove the plug to filter the coolant from the radiator. Repeat with the duplicate container under the coolant withdraw plug at the engine block.

3.5. Remove the manifold's mounting bolts and seperate it from the cylinder imagination. Don't pry the manifold off the attitude, or you may damage the sealing surface. Scrape the ancient gasket info off the mating surface.

4. Remove the ignition coil from the engine by unplugging its wire and electrical leads and removing its mounting nuts. Unbolt the alternator and its bracket, and allot it absent of the custom.

Detach the fuel lines, vacuum lines and wire leads from the fuel injection meeting. Plug the fuel lines with rubber so the fuel won't buy contaminated. Disconnect the fuel injection throttle linkage, cruise domination and TV linkage, and all other vacuum lines and wires connected to manifold components. Dash off positive you apperceive how and where everything is reconnected.

Installing the New Manifold

6. Remove all components that are even attached to the elderly manifold, and connect them to the latest one.

7. Disinfected the cylinder head with lacquer thinner or acetone. Achieve the equivalent to the different manifold's gasket surface whether needed.

8. Use a thin coat of RTV sealant to the mating surfaces of both the manifold and the cylinder head. Don't use too much sealant; make sure it won't go into the air or coolant passages after installation. Place a new gasket on the manifold.

9. Hold the manifold against the cylinder head, and install the bolts by hand. Tighten the bolts with the wrench in a specific order: Start with the two bolts on the top edge, then the two on the bottom corners, followed by the one on the top left corner and the two middle bolts at the bottom.

10. Reinstall all parts and components in reverse order of removal. Refill the radiator; use fresh engine coolant if the old coolant is contaminated in any way.
