The writers at Edmunds said it was the "American estate car, Story 2.0." Whatever it was called, the Magnum was never able to shake the American stigma of a station-wagon. Slow sales led the Magnum from the lineup after the 2008 replica year.

When talking about the performance of the 2005 Dodge Magnum, Tom Strongman of FamilyCar.com, said "The RT's 18-inch wheels and large tires play a significant role in delivering sporty handling. The Magnum is no racer, but it sits flat in turns and handles high-speed cruising with ease."
