Replace A Ford 5 4 Engine Exhaust Manifold

The exhaust manifolds on your Ford vehicle routs exhaust gases into the exhaust operation.Remove the exhaust manifold and gasket from the vehicle.27Unbolt the four lower exhaust manifold studs from the engine using a wrench or ratchet and deep socket. This procedure applies to most 5.4L engine models.

Instructions

Preparation

19. Install the two O2 sensors into the exhaust channel using the O2 sensor socket, whether you had to remove the intermediate exhaust tube.20. Plug the O2 sensors' electrical connectors.

3. Disconnect the ground battery cable using a wrench. This is the melanoid cable connected to the assign with a minus notice ensuing to it.

4. Stand the front of your Ford vehicle using a floor jack and facilitate it on two jack stands.

5. Chock the rear wheels and application the parking brake.

6. Build confident the engine and exhaust manifold is nippy Sufficiently to the touch before you depart to modify the manifolds.

Removing the Left Exhaust Manifold

7. Unplug the O2 sensors' electrical connectors bolted on the exhaust cylinder attached to the exhaust manifold.

8. Unbolt the two O2 sensors using a ratchet and O2 sensor socket. On some models, this might be required provided you extremity to remove the exhaust cylinder between the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold for higher quality access to the manifold.

9. Remove the four mounting nuts connecting the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter meeting. Capitalization a wrench or a ratchet, ratchet space and socket.

10. Unscrew the two bolts holding the exhaust facilitate bracket to the crossmember using the ratchet, ratchet time and socket.

11. Unscrew the eight exhaust manifold mounting nuts using the ratchet, ratchet period and socket. Loosen the nuts in three steps consequent a crisscross replica.

12. Remove the exhaust manifold and gasket from the vehicle.

Installing the Left Exhaust Manifold

13. Disinfected the left-hand engine exhaust manifold mounting surface with a plastic scraper to avoid bad the surface, which may prompt to exhaust leaks.

14. Locate the dissimilar exhaust manifold in lay along with a dewy gasket.

15. Alpha the eight mounting nuts by help and half-tighten the nuts using the ratchet, ratchet extent and socket.

16. Torque the eight mounting nuts to 18 foot-pounds using a torque wrench. Dawn with the upper-rear seed and then the peanut directly below. Linger with the after upper devotee, adjacent this representation and working your system In relation to the front of the engine.

17.Screw the exhaust bedding bracket to the crossmember using the ratchet, ratchet interval and socket.

18. Bolt the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter meeting using the wrench or ratchet, ratchet margin and socket.

1. Lawns your Ford vehicle on a calm surface.2. Place the transmission to "Impartial" (guide) or "Arena" (automatic).

Removing the Right Exhaust Manifold

21. Remove the starter Engine using a wrench and ratchet, ratchet time and socket.

22. Detach the right-hand inner fender hardy using the ratchet, ratchet time and socket.

23. Unbolt the two nuts connecting the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter drainpipe using a wrench or ratchet, ratchet period and socket.

24. Remove the sway bar mounting bolts and shift the bar down for bigger access to the exhaust manifold. Employment a wrench or ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

25. Loosen the eight exhaust manifold mounting nuts in three steps following a crisscross patter. Use the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

26

On the 5.4L representation, one manifold is mounted to the left and fitting side of the engine. When cracked or damaged, manifolds annex to be replaced to prevent harmful emissions from escaping into the atmosphere. Chase this conductor to convert one or both exhaust manifolds on your Ford vehicle.

Installing the Right Exhaust Manifold

28

Clean the engine exhaust manifold mounting surface using a plastic scraper to avoid damaging the surface.

29

Bolt the four lower exhaust manifold studs to the engine and torque the studs to 9 foot-pounds using the torque wrench and deep socket.

30

Set the new exhaust manifold in place using a new gasket.

31

Start the eight exhaust manifold mounting nuts by hand and then half-tighten the nuts using the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

32

Torque the mounting nuts to 18 foot-pounds using the torque wrench. Start with the upper-rear nut and then the lower nut. Continue with the next upper nut. Follow this pattern working your way towards the front of the engine, finishing with the lower front mounting nut.

33

Install the sway bar using the wrench or ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

34

Connect the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter pipe using the wrench or ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

35

Install the right-hand inner fender well using the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

36

Mount the starter motor using the wrench and ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.
