Switch The Heater Core Inside A Subaru Outback

The complication of replacing an Outback's heater core depends particularly on the vehicle's date. Newer models should need the composite Emigration of the adequate instrument panel. On older vehicles, you should single annex to remove the steering collar beam.

Newer Models


1. Unplug the Outback's detrimental battery cable. Discharge or filter the air conditioning development and cooling systems.


2. Disconnect the expansion valve and drainpipe in the engine compartment by removing the bolts that secure them. Remove the heater hoses by releasing the clamps.


3. Remove the instrument panel, block beam and blower Engine meeting. Unplug the actuator connector.


4. Loosen the heater unit's nuts and bolts to remove the unit. Seperate the unit dispute to remove the heater core.


You may use the same coolant if you drained it into a clean container.


6. Refill the cooling and air conditioning systems to the correctly levels. Properly charge the air conditioning operation.


Older Models

8. Remove the air intake manner, heater hoses and air conditioning unit. Remove the airbag direction unit (you'll essential a Torx wrench) and disconnect its leading wiring harness connector near the steering support beam.


9. Loosen the support beam's bolts and nuts and remove the beam, then disconnect the servo connector to reach the heater. Remove the heater unit and separate its case to remove the heater core.


10. Replace the new core in the heater unit and reconnect it. Connect the servo connector support beam, engage the airbag system and connect the AC unit, heater hoses and air intake system.


11. Fill the cooling system to the correct level.5. Install the contemporary core into the heater unit. Connect everything in reverse progression.
